Evli wins best emerging market fund of the year award in Sweden

Evli GEM has been named the best emerging market fund of the year by Swedish Privata Affärer. During the last five-year period, the fund beat its benchmark index by 2.7 percentage points on an annual basis. Privata Affärer's Fund of the Year award is Sweden's largest independent fund award.

Evli GEM is an actively managed equity fund that invests its assets mainly in emerging market equities. The fund manages EUR 153.2 million.

In the motivation for the award, Privata Affärer writes that "the fund combines the value strategy with growth - and performs strongly even when emerging markets face headwinds".

This is a great recognition for the fund and a result of stock selection based on rigorous investment criteria. It has given us a good chance to achieve good long-term returns without the need for perfect timing," says Hans-Kristian Sjöholm, one of the managers of Evli GEM.

Focus on strong cash flows

The fund has a bottom-up strategy focusing on undervalued companies with strong cash flows and good debt management capabilities. There are no geographic, sector or company size restrictions on the fund's investments.

At the end of 2023, the largest overweight to the MSCI EM index was in Taiwan, while China was significantly underweight. China has been underrepresented since the fund's inception in 2016. The largest sectors were IT, commodities, and industrials, with a notable overweight in SMEs.
