Evli portfolio manager Petter Langenskiöld recently joined Miltton’s Pörssipodi podcast to discuss the current market environment from a contrarian investor’s perspective.
In the episode, Langenskiöld highlights three key themes that, in his view, are currently shaping the markets:
- The impact of artificial intelligence
- The transformation of energy markets
- Rising government debt levels
Langenskiöld manages the Evli Silver and Gold, Evli Hannibal, and Evli UK Value funds. The Evli Silver and Gold fund, which invests in precious metal mining companies, was established in 2016 based on the premise that increasing government debt and unconventional monetary policy could support long-term demand for precious metals.
The discussion also explores contrarian investing, a core element of Langenskiöld’s investment philosophy. This approach focuses on identifying opportunities in areas that are overlooked or temporarily out of favour in the market. Currently, his interest is directed, among other things, toward companies affected by the negative side effects of AI development, as well as the European automotive sector.
The conversation further examines market cycles, investor behaviour, and how macroeconomic developments may be reflected across different asset classes.
