Evli is further enhancing its capabilities in emerging and frontier markets. Mathias Althoff from Tundra Fonder joins Evli as Co-Head of Emerging and Frontier Markets and Senior Portfolio Manager for the Evli Emerging Frontier fund on December 1, 2025.
Mathias brings over 20 years of experience in emerging and frontier markets investments and is recognized as one of the leading experts this field. Prior to joining Evli, Mathias was Vice Chief Investment Officer at Tundra Fonder, and successfully managed the Tundra Sustainable Frontier Fund since 2013. Mathias has also worked with emerging markets at Carnegie Investment Bank and HQ Bank.

This recruitment supports Evli’s goal to serve clients even better and reinforces Evli’s expertise in the growing emerging and frontier markets. Mathias will work with Antti Sivonen, who is the other Co-Head of Emerging and Frontier markets and senior portfolio manager for the fund. Antti has been working at Evli since 2010 and been part of the Evli Emerging Frontier fund’s portfolio management team since the fund was launched in 2013. Burton Flynn and Ivan Nechunaev, previously investment advisors for the fund, will be stepping into the role of senior advisors for the Evli Emerging Frontier fund.

The Evli Emerging Frontier fund’s investment strategy and philosophy will remain unchanged, and portfolio management will continue to be based in Helsinki. Going forward, the team will consist of both portfolio managers and analysts actively visiting emerging and frontier markets to explore potential investment opportunities.
