More than two decades of ESG investing 

Evli has been integrating ESG in its investments since late 90s, been a UN PRI signatory since 2010 and has published public fund ESG reports since 2017.

It has to do with our corporate culture. Evli has been doing many different things on the ESG front but, before going out and sharing them with a wider audience, we wanted to ensure that everything is in place. We didn’t want to make promises or mislead clients into thinking we are doing something that we are not.

An asset manager’s utmost duty is to help clients increase their wealth

Unless something as existential as the environment and climate change are taken into consideration, the fiduciary duty will be failed. At Evli, we believe that a culture of RI and ESG must course through the veins of a company. We believe the scientists when they say that a dramatic change in CO2 emissions is imperative, else the operating environment for many industries will become unviable and thousands of businesses across the world will be severely affected.

When I started at Evli about 5 years ago, I sat down with the portfolio managers to discuss ESG and responsible investing. It turned out that they already were following the approach, and had been for decades. They had simply thought that ESG and responsible investing were something else.
