Evli engaging Corporate Responsibility

One of the key factors in Evli Bank´s sustainability is engagement. Evli has been involved in engagement of companies through CDP's investor letters since 2017. CDP is an independent organization whose aim is to encourage companies to report on and manage their impact on the environment.

Evli Bank has been an investor signatory of CDP since 2007. Initially, the letters were addressed to companies at risk from the climate change point of view. Later, the impact was extended to the forest and water side as well. The aim of CDP's joint engagement is to encourage companies to report on the climate, forest and water indicators of their operations, so that companies are more aware of the impacts of their operations and, on the other hand, investors get a more comprehensive picture of the companies' responsibility.

In 2020, 108 investors from 24 countries participated in the impact, with a combined wealth of EUR 12 trillion. A total of 1,025 companies in 49 countries were affected. Of the affected companies, 206 started reporting their activities to CDP, 156 related to climate change, 20 related to forests and 43 to water. When comparing the engaged companies with those not engaged, it was found that the engaged companies were twice as likely to start reporting environmental factors as non-engaged companies.

“For Evli engagement has always been an important part of responsible investment, as we believe it is a sustainable way to take companies' operating practices forward. Through engagement initiatives such as CDP, companies are able to develop their own operations and report on essential issues for investors. As corporate reporting develops, investors will also be able to make broader decisions that take better account of climate, forestry and water issues”, says Outi Helenius, Head of Sustainability at Evli Bank.
